Finding a Groove

At the start of this round, I was unsure about whether or not I wanted to participate. I was deep in the midst of a holiday hangover. It felt like round one was just starting too soon. I went back and forth about it. I didn’t want to start late or skip the whole round, but I had no clue what I really wanted to work on during this time. Ultimately, I joined. I pieced together some goals that seemed appropriate and I kept it moving.

As the weeks go on, I find that some goals have just died. Some have been tweaked. Some have popped up out nowhere and remain kind of unofficial. I have found myself a little groove. Once I decided that I wasn’t adding new craft books to my to-be-read list, I hit my own bookshelves. There are plenty of books already in my personal library that are untouched.

I’m content with my daily writing and getting lots of reading done. Since Wednesday, I’ve finished June Casagrande’s It was the best of sentences, It was the worst of sentences. I liked her approach to grammar enough to look into her other books. Ha, but since I don’t already own them, they’ll stay on the back burner for a while. I’ve started John Truby’s The Anatomy of Story. Β On the fiction side of things, I picked a couple of Jennifer Estep’s novels from the library, Hot Mama and Karma Girl.

So, that’s where I am. Read, read, read. Write, write, write. Eat, sleep, and the usual stuff.

Hope all is well with you guys. Happy ROWing. Until Wednesday.

  1. You don’t have conquer Everest to be a climber and you don’t have to write epic fiction every day to be a writer. Well done on all the reading and writing; it’s all to the good!

  2. I’m doing more reading this year I had let the writing take over – I find my mind is more creative with it – it had begun to get stale I think – so read read read write write write eat ect sounds good to me:)
    all the best

  3. My first round of ROW I planned out six “simple” goals. Yeah, by the end of the round I had succeeded at two, made heavy changes to two and dropped two. Goals do not have to be extravagant, they just have to be what you need. I say this often: Progress is progress. You are making progress and that is all that counts.

Totally hear you on the book stack by the way. I just finished the last craft book I hadn’t read which I bought six months ago and have a stack of 30 or so fiction books staring at me in a massive stack. Read, write and be happy.

Have a great week, Yolanda πŸ™‚

  4. Happy Rowing to you too! Sounds like my life except with kids. Have a good week. Happy Valentine’s Day!

  5. Sounds like me, read read read, write write write (sometimes!). So glad you joined in with this round and that is what it is all about, goals changing and tweaking to make it work for you. Have a great week!

  6. How Yolanda got her groove back! You always give me inspiration and laffs. I had the opposite groove to this round. I started out strong, totally jazzed, even signed up to be a sponsor…and then the proverbial doo-doo hit the fan, personally and professionally.

Totally lost my groove, haven’t regained it yet. I’ll get there. Eventually.
